Message From The Executive Director

Dear Friends of Chapel Rock,

I write to you with a sense of urgency from Chapel Rock. I appreciate you taking the time to read, pray and act immediately. Due to COVID-19 precautions, Chapel Rock is now closed and will reopen when we know the pandemic has passed.

Over the past few days, all schools coming to our science camp program, the Aspen Creek Outdoor School, as well as all groups in March and April coming to Chapel Rock for conferences and retreats have cancelled. These cancellations will result in over $400,000 in lost revenue for Chapel Rock, and that is if cancellations cease after April.

We are not in a financial position to withstand this revenue loss. The Chapel Rock Board of Advisors and Finance Committee are considering every option to preserve Chapel Rock for our up-coming summer season and many seasons thereafter. We are in our 89th year of operation and are looking forward to celebrating our 90th and many more.

Chapel Rock very much depends on revenue generated through the Aspen Creek Outdoor School as well as through the conference work we do to operate and stay financially viable. Each year an average of $50,000 in tuition assistance is awarded to campers in need and we have been fortunate to meet this demand for a number of years consecutively. This year we will not.

COVID-19 has changed everything for us, but faced with this difficult situation, Chapel Rock can still be the incredible place we know and love if you act now. That means to support housekeepers, guest services, and others whose jobs are in peril short term. Because we do not have operating reserves due to the difficult financial times we suffered during the Great Recession, we must collect our Annual Fund NOW in order for Chapel Rock to meet its financial obligations during this critical time. An envelope is enclosed or your online gift makes a difference immediately: www.chapelrock.net/donate.htm

I am hopeful that all who love Chapel Rock and the ministry that we do through our camps, will support this effort. The youth who will come here this summer need you. I look forward to your generous response.

Thank you and God Bless,

Kelly Wood
