A.B.C. & Mini Camp
Parent/Caregiver Guide
A safe place for God’s smallest campers
In a Nutshell
Ankle Biters’ Camp is designed to be an introductory camp experience for young children, and a time for you as their parents or caregivers to experience what happens at camp. You will have a brief entrance interview with your child’s counselor so you can share whatever you think will help them provide the best care possible for your child.
This interview will cover the following topics:
Eating
Sleeping
Behaviors, including how they’re managed at home
Fears or anxieties
Anything specific about toileting (Please note: it is our assumption that if your child is signed up for camp, he or she can care for typical toileting needs independently.)
Special hobbies, interests, and preferences
For the Adults
Campers and parents/caregivers have some activities together throughout the day, but we also have activities just for parents/caregivers, including the ropes course, hiking, yoga, Bible study or discussion groups, and games. All activities offered for parents are optional; they are offered for your fellowship and growth, but it is up to you whether you participate or use the time for whatever else you would like to do (nap, read, hike, etc.).
At night, parents/caregivers help their campers get ready for bed and say goodnight in their campers’ bunk lodge, then retire to their own linen room with a private bathroom in St. James or St. Barnabas Lodge.
A more complete packing list for campers will be sent out when you register.
A Few Rules
During summer camp, Chapel Rock is an alcohol-free facility. Please refrain from bringing alcohol on property; there will be soft drinks and snacks to enjoy together during fellowship time.
Chapel Rock is always a drug-, tobacco-, and vape-free facility. Please do not smoke cigarettes or anything else on the premises. This is for fire safety as well as the well-being and comfort of campers and staff. If you must smoke, the Executive Director can give you suggestions for where you can do so safely off property.
St. Barnabas and St. James Lodge are for housing parents and caregivers during ABC, not campers. If for any reason you decide your child needs to sleep with you rather than in the cabin, please know that because adult rooms are shared, you will need to find alternative accommodations. It may help to discuss bedtime with your child and set the expectation prior to camp that they will not be able to room with you.

Ankle Biters Camp - ABC
The perfect introduction to Chapel Rock summer camp for young children and parents/caregivers alike! Young campers, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, will have an authentic camp experience while still keeping their parents or other adult caregivers close enough to feel secure. Children spend time with their parents during mealtimes, story times, prayer, and getting ready for bedtime. Campers have arts and crafts, games, and other camp activities with their counselors and cabin mates apart from parents. Children stay in St. Matthew’s Lodge with counselors just across the road from their parents, who enjoy hotel-like accommodations in St. Barnabas or St. James Lodge. While children are having fun away from their parents, parents may participate in fellowship, guided conversations about faith and family, low- and high-ropes activities and free time in the fresh Prescott air.
Check-in begins at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Camp ends at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Mini Camp
A shortened independent camp experience. Mini Campers, 1st - 2nd graders (completed grades), will join the older campers for music, stories, and fun, and will also have special activities just for them. This is the ideal time to introduce young children to camp! Parents do not attend Mini Camp.
Check-in begins at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Children must be checked out by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Between Camp Sessions
ABC families with children returning for Mini Camp leave Chapel Rock property between camps. Staff can tell you about fun ways to spend time in and around Prescott, if you ask!
